Frequently Asked Questions

What is the weather like?

Our Summer GLDI is held at Vanguard University. Located in Southern California’s Orange County, the city of Costa Mesa boasts its beautiful weather. Temperatures range from about 70°-95°F. Southern California’s weather is on the dry and warm side.

There will be air-conditioning in the classroom and evenings might be a little chilly. Please pack accordingly but appropriately and with discretion. (Please refer to the dress code.)

During GLDI you’ll be spending a few days camping in the mountains. Temperatures will range from 55°F in the morning to over 100°F during the daytime.

Will I be able to leave campus?

During the weekdays you will be able to walk off-campus with a group of other GLDI students. On the weekends you will also be doing activities with GLDI so going off campus unless approved by GLDI is not allowed. We understand that some of you will be coming from the Southern California/Orange County area. However, you will not get special privileges to go off campus on your own so please do not make plans to leave the campus for personal reasons.

What will I need to prepare beforehand?

If you are accepted into GLDI, you will be getting a welcome packet that will help you prepare for GLDI, such as the reading assignments you will have to finish before coming to GLDI. First and foremost, please prepare your heart through prayer. We also recommend that you practice waking up early and exercising.

If I live near Vanguard University, can I attend my church on Sundays?

We understand that some of you will be coming from the Southern California/Orange County area. However, you will not be allowed to leave campus to attend your church. One of the great things about GLDI is visiting different churches together and being exposed to different styles of worship.

I would like to visit a church in Southern California on my own. Is this possible?

No. We try to visit few churches in Southern California during 40 days of GLDI, however we don’t allow students to visit a church on their own. You may visit after GLDI finishes.
